Well, thanks to the XM in my car - the 80's on 8 is on all the time... well, practially all the time - when I am not getting freaked out by Coast to Coast on 165! ANYWHO...
The ballad "Toy Soldiers" by Martika was on (Man, I loved her big hoopy earrings and short hair - I could do the hair and earrings, but was never able to get the clothes right from my K-Mart closet) as I was driving in my car. I'm belting out the songs, getting strange looks from the other drivers (What else is new!) when it hits me - I had been singing the wrong lyrics.
For the past 15 years this is what I thought the song said:
Bit by bit / torn apart / We never win / but the better wages are/ for toy soldiers.
Later on, in the kitchen, I was sharing the revelation with my husband.
He said mine don't even make sense, and I went on to explain, that I thought the better wages meant the odds were in the favor for the toy soldiers to win.
Silence.
Then... "You mean 'wagers' ?"
"Oh, that's why the song never made sense before." It was clear to me now that I was thinking wagers, instead of wages, but really rages is all what it's about!
Here are the actual lyrics in part
Bit by bit
Torn apart
We never win
But the battle wages on for toy soldiers
And PS to Chad... Prince will always say "Let me show you baby I'm an Italian boy."

I like living in blissful ignorance about song lyrics. Sometimes they are garbled and I like my version better anyway. Like, there is this Bush song from the 16 Stone album and I've always sung the lyric "Baboon's white again," but I doubt Gavin is singing about baboon's.

You so crazy girl... If Prince says let me show you baby I'm an Italian Boy I will eat nothing but dry spaghetti for the rest of my life, and you know how much I love pasta... Later Baby love you...
My fav is still "hot potatoes, hot potatoes....oh oh oh hot potatoes"
